Project Prom Dress Extravaganza to be held April 9

Alfred State is excited to announce that Project Prom Dress Extravaganza 2017 will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9 in the Pioneer Center on the Alfred campus.

Fifth annual Celebrate Service, Celebrate Allegany draws 300 student volunteers

Celebrate Service, Celebrate Allegany kicked off its fifth year this past Saturday and proved to be a huge success, as approximately 300 student volunteers from Alfred State, Alfred University, and Houghton College came together to engage in community service projects throughout Allegany County.

Alfred State named a Lead Advisory Institution once again

“The recognition illustrates that our students learn not only about social issues,” Greg Sammons said, “but also how to apply knowledge in order to actively engage these challenges and directly be a part of the solutions in our communities.” 

Southern Tier communities are grateful for student volunteers

Many of the organizations present at the fair have benefited from a flood of Alfred State student volunteers and interns in the past, which is why they were looking to recruit Pioneers again.

Incoming students aid community during Community Action Day

A total of 93 incoming students took part in Community Action Day, held during the college’s annual Week of Welcome. Designed with new students in mind, the week includes a number of events that are intended to help students have fun, get involved, and feel at home.

More than 200 students ‘Spring Into Action’ for day of service

The students participated in 25 projects at various locations such as churches, libraries, and service organizations in several communities including Alfred, Alfred Station, Almond, and Wellsville.

National Volunteer Week events planned

Giving back to the community and helping others are strongly focused on at Alfred State, and as a result, the college has a number of events planned for National Volunteer Week April 10-16.

Students volunteer out-of-state during spring break

From March 13-19, a group of 13 students worked alongside Horry County Habitat for Humanity in Myrtle Beach, SC, assisting in the ReStore thrift store and helping a family to build a new home.

Several honored during Celebration of Service Ceremony

A number of Alfred State and Alfred University faculty, staff, students, and community members were recognized for their service to others Jan. 28 during the sixth annual Celebration of Service Ceremony at the Alfred Village Hall.

Leadership Suite initiative earns Certificate of Honorable Mention

The purpose of Alfred State’s 13 leadership suites, located in the Student Leadership Center, is to inspire students to discover their passion and make a difference. Suites are awarded to student organizations actively involved in exciting and meaningful civic engagement projects locally, regionally, and globally.
