“The competition was both challenging and exciting. We were tasked with trying to figure out a farm's biggest areas of improvement and make a presentation the next day to a panel of judges, which required a lot of brainstorming, creativity, and teamwork. Working with students from other colleges was a unique experience. It was fascinating to see the different perspectives and skills each person brought to the team.”

“In labs we deal with a variety of livestock species. We have learned how to do medical work and I am looking forward in my future semesters to learning more about artificial insemination and more about genetics. The hands-on opportunities I have gotten here are valuable. These experiences have opened a whole field of careers that were not previously available to me.”

“It is important to help others. Everyone has different things in life that they want to be a benefactor for. I do not think there was ever a doubt that we wanted to do something substantial to continue to help the best we can.”
Russell Herman
“I am involved in a lot, and it feels good to help. In the spaces I have been, we have been able to create a community or family. It is important to give back to people who give to you. I have gained a lot from my experiences at Alfred State.”
Ashley Clemente
“We have students from all over Western New York and from as far away as the other side of Syracuse here. This is not a typical kind of open house. Most of the activities are interactive so they got to experience soldering, driving excavators, wiring electrical circuits, and judging dairy cows. There were forty activities and almost every department on campus was involved.”
Phil Schroeder
Chair of the Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department
“For more than 50 years, the Educational Opportunity Program has served as a guiding light toward upward mobility and student success for those who may not have had a clear path to college. Our EOP student ambassadors, many the first in their families to go to college, are a testament to what can be achieved with the support provided by the EOP."
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr.
“WNY Works is a collaborative effort to heighten awareness and interest in associate degrees, certificates, and non-credit training to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for individuals to launch high-demand careers. The goal of this effort, in part, is to reframe perceptions of learning opportunities that lead to careers such as highly skilled trades and technical opportunities in manufacturing.”
