“I chose Alfred State because I like how the classes are structured to be hands-on and everything is straight forward. I chose electrical as my major because I really like the process and the troubleshooting of making things work.”

Emily came into the program with little knowledge of the field but found it pretty easy to get up to speed. “They really started from the basics. They talked you through it carefully made sure you understood it before they sent you on to the next project.”

The day-to-day learning from the combination of lecture and lab has helped Emily’s learning curve. “On a typical day we start off with lecture in the morning and then we move on to our hands-in instruction. In lab we go through the process and learn the different fundamentals in each lab.”

The professors have added to her experiences. “The professors have helped me by having the open office hours and by being available pretty much anytime throughout the day to get extra help. They love to go in depth over questions to make sure that you really understand before moving on to the next step.
