“We are on schedule with the Agriculture Science Building and are at the point where we will start seeing the updating of this building come to life. Not only will the building have an incredible new look and technology-enriched labs, but it will also reduce our carbon footprint.”

“I am proud to have worked with CATCO, C&S Companies, and the State University of New York Construction Fund on this project. We thought outside the box and were able to accomplish the goals of the construction while reducing waste.”

Sustainability is a top priority at Alfred State College. That’s why over the past eight years, the school has taken a number of ecofriendly steps to reduce its environmental footprint, while increasing energy efficiency on campus.
Looking to the future, York said, “My end vision is to completely eliminate single-use plastic bags on Alfred State’s campus and create a sustainably minded culture while doing so.”
“The college has a long history of being a leader in sustainability, including classroom instruction, building a Zero Energy Home on the Wellsville campus, and leading a $2.8 million NYSERDA grant on clean energy training across New York State,” said Dr. Craig Clark, vice president of Economic Development at Alfred State. “We look forward to continuing to lead through the REV process.”
Through evaluating building-by-building benchmarks, the college as a whole performed very well in the Preliminary Energy Analysis report which was not weather-normalized. According to the analysis, out of seven similar-sized SUNY campuses, Alfred State’s energy consumption is noticeably lower than five of them, and ties results for first place.
“This was an excellent opportunity for Alfred State and Alfred University students to display their talents and abilities on a national scale,” Richardson said. “They were also able to receive a valuable hands-on learning experience unlike any other, which will undoubtedly benefit them in their careers once they graduate.”
