Agribusiness Management

The location of Alfred State and the variety of topics taught drew Katelyn Miller to the agribusiness management program.

“We learn a little bit of everything. The program has a nice mix between animal, crops, and the business side. They continue to build on the program as well.”

Internships were key to Katelyn. “I did a crop internship scouting soybeans, alfalfa, and corn. Growing up on a dairy farm, I never thought I would get a job in this area. Without the experiences at Alfred State, I would not have had this opportunity. My education broadened my horizons.”

Katelyn credits her professors for her success. “They are great instructors that help guide you where you need to be. We work hands-on with the animals and are pushed to learn all about them. Our instructors help not only in the school environment but with our personal development.”

Being part of the Collegiate Agricultural Leaders (CAL) club and the dairy consignment sale was a great learning experience for Katelyn and her classmates. “We connected and networked with people in the industry. It was an additional learning experience.”

As Katelyn starts her career as a field crop and forage specialist for Cornell Cooperative, she is thankful for the people she met at Alfred State. “The people are so friendly and down-to-earth.”
