Employment of biochemists and biophysicists is projected to grow 5 percent from 2022 to 2032, slower than the average for all occupations.

Despite limited employment growth, about 3,900 openings for biochemists and biophysicists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Most of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The 2022 median annual salary for biological technicians was $49,650.  The 2021 median annual salary for a biochemist and biophysicist was $102,270.
